Dealers must be licensed by AMVIC, the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council, and must give buyers a mechanical fitness assessment on a used car. Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so GST is the only sales tax on a dealer sale.
Wherever you buy
Get a vehicle history report and a lien check before you pay — a car sold with money owing on it can be repossessed from the new owner. Ask for an independent pre-purchase inspection; a dealer that refuses one is telling you something. And compare the all-in price, not the monthly payment.
